Peter Begalla is a consultant for large family enterprises worldwide. He is not a skydiver, but has jumped from an airplane at least a few times, and about 10 years ago he spent nearly two years helping our competitive skydiving team — the Performance Designs Factory Team — expand its membership, and perhaps more significantly, helped us to mature as a fledgling startup business.
Today, our business — Flight-1 — employees more than 30 instructors and works regularly with elite military units worldwide. Many people are responsible for Flight-1’s success, but Peter was one of the first external resources to add sustainable value to our organization.
For over 13 years, Peter was a visiting lecturer at Stetson University in Florida, and helped hundreds of undergraduate students understand and appreciate the power of family enterprises in the Family Business major.
Today, Peter is the Education and Conference Director for Family Business Magazine which puts on multiple conferences for family businesses throughout the year.
What inspires me most about Peter, however, is his beautiful family, and the almost effortless way in which he and his wife Angela seem to balance their busy lives. They have three children: A 20-year old son in his second year at Berkley College of Music in Boston, and twin daughters who are juniors in high school.
Whether consulting, lecturing, sitting on a board or spending time with his family, Peter’s chief super-power, IMO, is his ability to engage the right people in productive conversations that strengthen the dynamic of the entire group.
Like all of my guests so far, Peter values time over money and experience over material acquisition. He lives happily with his wife in two daughters in DeLand, Fla., and is one of the most balanced and thoughtful people that I know.
Please open your ears and your heart for this wonderful conversation with my friend, Peter Begalla.
