French skydiver Domi Kiger is a freefly world champion who started skydiving at the age of 16. After high school, Domi spent six months refining her English in an American university, and another six months interning at a cultural center in India. She has undergraduate degrees in history and a masters in documentary script writing.
In 2008 Domi co-founded Kristal, a French skydiving team that eventually won the 2012 freefly world championships in Dubai. Domi is one of the most talented and accomplished female skydivers in the world, amassing numerous French, European and World Cup victories, and almost as many French, European and World records, most notably the women’s vertical world record in 2013.
Today Domi wears multiple skydiving hats. She travels the world organizing skydiving events as part of the JoyRiders, and all-female skydiving team that she joined in 2013, with members from Norway, the UK, Sweden, Israel, the USA, France and New Zealand. She is also working to help indoor skydiving become an Olympic sport, and in that vein, she and some partners are excited to announce that they have begun construction on a new wind tunnel in France called zerOGravity that is slated to open its doors in early 2020.
This conversation was recorded in Nov 2017, and as you will hear, in the six weeks that still remained in that year, Domi’s travel itinerary included at least four more countries. And just to be clear, Domi isn’t your run-of-the-mill international business traveler. In other words, she doesn’t drudge through the week just counting the hours until she can return home. She isn’t (usually) in board rooms or job sites. Conversely, her work is physical, it’s fun, and it’s fulfilling.
Like my skydiving guests so far, however, what inspires me most about Domi has nothing to do with skydiving. Domi has garnered an ability to constantly take on new challenges, and to see life’s twists and turns as opportunities rather than speed bumps. In fact, at the time of this recording, as you will hear, she was planning a six-month road-trip through central and South America. And I’m happy to say that as this episode is released — Dec 27, 2018 — Domi is about five months into that trip, somewhere in central Chile, last I checked.
I could go on and on about my admiration of this extraordinary person, but I’ve said enough. Please enjoy Domi’s unique perspective on this experience we call life.
